This is “High Value, Low Volume” tourism

The Government’s fixed rate for all tourists visiting Bhutan in a group of three or more is US $ 200 for a person per night and it’s inclusive of Expert leadership, All accommodations, All meals, All transportation during the tour and All activities as will be noted in the itinerary based on twin room sharing basis.

However, there is a surcharge applicable for the group size of less than three. It’s US$ 30 for a person per night for two people traveling together, and US$ 50 per night for solo traveler.

It is the government’s way of sustaining tourism without affecting its fragile cultural heritage. The philosophy has always been, “High Value, Low Volume” tourism. There are no backpack travelers in Bhutan. Thirty five percent of the tariff goes to the government. It helps finance free medical care and education for all Bhutanese.
